Obituary for Dorothy F. Johnsen

Dorothy, Dot, "Speedy" Johnsen, 92 of Long Branch passed away ever so peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019 with family and friends at her side throughout.

Born in Brooklyn in 1926 where she also met the true and unmistakable love of her life, her belated husband of 66 years Robert (Bob) who preceded her in death in 2013 at 96.

Dot was the beloved Mother of Robert, Grandmother to Jason, and "Mother" to Nancy Marcus her Special Friend and Cohort. Dorothy was sister to her belated siblings Frances, Anthony and Edward and treasured the many nieces and nephews she loved who are spread throughout this country. The Matriarch, oldest and the last of her generation on all sides of the families, she was consoler and counselor to many who called her friend including those at Star of the Sea Church, the Senior Center in Long Branch and Peter Cooper Village. A walking hug as described by one. And let us not forget her love and devotion to her pussycat, Zoe and all animals.

Robert Johnsen, family and friends wish to acknowledge the caring and concern displayed to Mom as she battled bladder cancer.
Heartfelt thanks to her internist, Dr. Jeffrey Lederman and his staff, her oncologist, Dr. Sang Sim and the entire team at the Cheryl Diamond Cancer Care Pavilion at the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center and to Carmelo for always making her entrance grand.

Visitation will be held at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch on Monday, January 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral, Tuesday, January 22; 9:00 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 am at Star of the Sea RC Church, Long Branch.
