Obituary for Jennie Perri

Jennie DeLisa Perri passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2018. Mom, Miss Jen, Gran, Great Gran...she was beloved by her family and her impact has left indelible marks on those she leaves behind. Even at 97, Jennie’s zest for life, keen sense of humor, sharp wit - and pinpoint memory -proved that she was truly young at heart.

Unassuming, private, and extremely punctual, Jennie kept up with all the latest news...local, world, politics, she never missed a beat. In addition to her sense of humor, and infectious laugh, we will miss her cooking - her Thanksgiving stuffing, homemade ravioli, strawberry shortcake, and ta-doll cookies are just a few of the family favorites. We will continue to spend our days reminiscing about the good times and her apropos commentary that kept everyone rollicking with laughter.

In 2008, she lost her husband of 65 years, Anthony “Tony” Perri, Sr. They shared a local love story of their own. Both Long Branch residents, they met at Long Branch High School and began as high school sweethearts when Jennie was just a sophomore. That initial connection eventually yielded 2 children, Jeanne and Tony, 6 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren! Their love cultivated a family of children who are so proud of her yet also in disbelief because it was easy to believe that Jennie would live forever. Without the matriarch of the family, we feel a deep sense of loss but are also comforted by the wonderful memories.

One of 12 brothers and sisters, Jennie lost her mother at just 5 years old on December 23rd. She, too, has now passed away on that same day, and while she was robbed of a mother, her family will be forever grateful that they were blessed to have her as the family matriarch, our strength and the glue that kept everyone together.

She is survived by her son Tony Perri and daughter in law Karen of Fine Fare Supermarket in Long Branch, her daughter Jeanne Stickel and son in law Hal Stickel, her sister and brother in law Nettie And Herb Arm, 6 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and her beloved friend and caretaker Monica Nelms, who devotedly cared for both she and her husband Anthony Perri until their final days.

Heaven better serve good pizza and cheesecake, or they will have to answer to one tough little lady. We will miss you, Gran, but your memory undoubtedly lives on in all of us and our children forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27 at 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Church, 800 Ocean Avenue in Long Branch. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Health Group, 23 Main Street, Suite D1, Holmdel, NJ 07733. The family invites you to write a letter condolence, share a story or make a donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
