Joe Galacki, 62, devoted husband, brother, son and friend, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019. He was predeceased by his father, Julius Galacki Sr. Joe was born and raised in Long Branch, graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School, attended Brookdale Community College and most recently resided in Matawan with his wife Diane. Joe was a very talented craftsman, who worked as an independent contractor as well as previously for Toll Brothers and Matzel and Mumford. Joe was creative and inventive and delighted in building, repairing, and just plain tinkering. Joe was always willing to lend a helping hand as he generously shared his unique bag of engineering tricks and handyman skills with friends, neighbors, and family members who were very grateful for his expertise and companionship.

Joe and his wife Diane enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed hiking, biking, and x-country skiing. Joe was a long-time member of the Sierra Club, where he met his wife. He was also a member of Clean Ocean Action and supported many other environmental causes. Additionally, he enjoyed music and filming live concerts, including his wife’s performances. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, who will cherish their memories of him.

Joe is survived by his wife, Diane Doolittle Galacki, his beloved dog, Lacie, his mother Veronica Galacki and his older brother John both of Long Branch, his sister Dee Galacki and niece Kim Friedman of Needham, MA, and younger brother Julius of Los Angeles, CA

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. The funeral service will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 883 Rt. 34 in Matawan at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
