Obituary for Josephine Mirabito

Josephine L. Mirabito joined her beloved husband Sal in eternal rest on Friday, December 7, 2018, the eve of her 95th birthday. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Josephine will be remembered for her abiding faith in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and His Blessed Mother, the resonance of her rich mezzo-soprano voice, her love and concern for her extended family and friends, and her optimism, good humor, and joie de vivre which were reflected in a smile that lit up her whole face.

A product of her time, she was a homemaker and mother, returning to work after her children were in high school. After moving from Jersey City to Long Branch in 1969, she served as the property manager for Brott Realty for 20 years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church, a member of the church choir for 35 years, and a soloist for weddings and funerals at St. Michael’s and other area churches. She was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Older and Weiser Group.

She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Salvatore, in January of this year; her parents, Joseph and Erminia Beni Di Lauro; her brother, Francis J. Di Lauro and sister, Angela Sabbia. Surviving are her daughter, Marina Kerber; her son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Laura Mirabito; five grandchildren, Andrea Frank, Jonathan Mirabito, Marina K. Kerber, Katharine Kerber-Cosentino, and Regina Mirabito; four great-grandsons, Jackson, Henry, Max and Sam.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 3 – 7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave in Long Branch. Funeral, Wednesday; 10 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Michael’s Church, West End, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Bread for the Poor, Inc., 144 W. 32nd St., New York, NY 10001.
