Obituary for Laurentino De Jesus Vieira

Laurentino (“Bela”) De Jesus Vieira, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Casa Velho, Portugal, Bela was an avid soccer player and a hardworking mason by trade. Bela immigrated to the United States in 1969 where he settled in Long Branch, New Jersey with his family. Bela was a pioneer and paved the way for many of his loved ones to immigrate to America to pursue the American Dream. Bela was fun-loving and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a well-known figure in the local Portuguese community, and cherished his family and spending time with friends. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures of homemade Portuguese vino or a cold cerveza while rooting on his favorite futbol club, Benfica. Bela was a kind-hearted and carefree soul, and his optimism and strength shone through up until his final moments.

Bela is predeceased by his loving parents: Manuel and Rosa (De Jesus) Vieira, and two loving brothers: Abel and Isidro Vieira. Bela is survived by three loving brothers: Manuel of Portugal, Adriano of Venezuela, and Julio of France, as well as three loving sisters: Aurora Vieira of France, Amelia Conceicao of Long Branch, and Fatima Goncalves of Portugal. Also surviving is Bela’s beloved and dear wife of 55 years, Nidia Vieira (nee Silva), and adoring children: daughter Jutilia Wilson and husband Tom of Elkton, Maryland, son Luis Vieira and wife Elaine of Howell, New Jersey, and daughter Salina Neuhaus and husband Brian of West Long Branch, New Jersey. Bela is also survived by eight grandchildren who absolutely adored him: Johnny Wilson of Colorado, Joanne Wilson of New York City, and Isabelle Wilson of Elkton; Chaeli, Jillian and Tyler (“TJ”) Vieira of Howell; and Hayden and Gavin Neuhaus of West Long Branch. Bela is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, from 6PM to 8PM at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Funeral, Wednesday, June 26; 10AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Christ the King Parish, 408 Prospect Street, Long Branch.
