Obituary for Maria Podhirny

Maria DeAcetis Podhirny, 91, of Eatontown passed away peacefully March 12, 2020 in Long Branch, N.J.
Maria was born to the late Carmine and Rosa DeAcetis in Brooklyn, New York, where she was raised, until moving to the Jersey Shore 50 years ago to raise her family.

Maria began her employment as a clerk in Franklin Simon’s clothing store in Monmouth Mall. She then took on a job as a telephone operator on the night shift at Harbor Island Spa in Long Branch while waiting for a job opening at Fort Monmouth. To get her foot in the door, she took a job at the commissary, and then landed a position at Vail Hall as a communication clerk, where she worked 20 years before retiring.

Maria’s true devotion and pride were her children. She taught them the responsibility of working hard and to be independent and self-sufficient. She would talk to each one of them daily, only to call the other children and fill them in. She said this way we can all stay close even though we don’t see or talk to each other daily. She always said “I took care of my children so in return they can care for their own”. After all the hard work of raising her children, she was able to enjoy her grandchildren and great grandchildren, She enjoyed all the news programs and called herself a news junkie as she was up on everything from politics to fashion and Hollywood.

Maria was predeceased by her parents Carmine and Rosa DeAcetis, her brother Joseph, her husband Stanley Sr., and a son William. She is survived by her son Stanley Jr. and his wife Annette of Florida, daughters Joann Ellison of Florida and Stephanie Migliaccio and her Husband Fred of West Long Branch, and sons Richard of New York and Ronald of Eatontown, grandchildren Matthew, Leslie, Alex, Nicky, Joseph, Jamie, Kristine and Patrick, also 5 great grandchildren.
