Peter Mistretta, age 84 of Oceanport, was called home on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Peter was born in Jamesburg and was a life resident of Oceanport. He was the former owner and proprietor of Fowler Paint & Wallpaper in Sea Bright; as well, he enjoyed his job at Monmouth Racetrack and as a Toll Collector for the NJ Highway Department.

He served honorably in the Army National Guard achieving the rank of Sergeant and was a member of the Long Branch Old Guard, the Sea Bright and Oceanport Fire Departments, the Oceanport Senior Center and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed his time as a 3rd base coach for the “Blackhawks” and a Webelos Scout Leader. He and his wife Carol were avid travelers visiting such places as the Golden Gate Bridge, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Canyon and New Orleans French Quarter.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Guy and John and his sister, Vincenza (Dolly) and his son-in-law Edmond Fette. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Carol Emmons Mistretta; his son Kris; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and John Z'Duniak; Cindy Fette and Karen and Rich Bohnert; grandchildren, Michael and Lisa, Alyssa and Stephanie, R.J., Morgan and Hayley and Aidan; two great grandchildren, Leah and Jordyn; his sister Marie Hollywood and 14 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1 from 2 - 6 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Funeral, Monday, February 3; 10:30 am at the funeral home with a service to begin at 11 am. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made the Ronald McDonald House, 131 Bath Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740. Letters of condolence may be sent through the web at www.damianofuneralhome.com.
