Obituary for Rita Joy Crane

Rita Joy Crane, of Monmouth Beach, NJ formerly of Loch Arbour passed away on January 4, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Joy was born in Scarsdale, New York. Joy started her career journey by working for the Howdy Doody Show in NYC. Soon after, she worked as a fashion model and she lived in Greenwich Village, NY. Her desire to travel led her to becoming a flight attendant. It was there she met her beloved husband of 44 years. Together they moved to New Jersey. She found her rewarding job as the office administrator in the Political Science department at Monmouth University. Joy enjoyed 30 years at Monmouth.

Due to her generous spirit, she felt it was important to be involved in her community. She was a member of the Monmouth Medical Center Woman’s Auxiliary for many years. She also volunteered with the Monmouth County Meals on Wheels program. She was the past president of the Monmouth County League of Woman’s Voters. Most recently, she was a member of the Sea Bright Seniors and the Monmouth Beach Beautification Committee. Joy was also an active member of the Reformation Lutheran Church in West Long Branch.

She continued her love of traveling by taking her family on cruises and other vacations. She was a firm believer in building memories and those memories will live on with her children and grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Crane. She is survived by her daughter Marilou Halvorsen and husband Kevin of Eatontown, NJ; stepsons Thomas Crane and wife Annie of Meredith, NH; William Crane and wife Lois, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, stepdaughter Carol Pramberger of Willington, CT.; 12 grandchildren, Eric, Samantha, Derek, Christine, Heath, Megan, Brent, Carmen, Brenda, Jocelyn, Zoey and Jaylene as well as numerous great grandchildren; her brother Robert Celander and wife Geraldine, two nieces and a nephew and many friends who loved her dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Reformation Lutheran Church in West Long Branch on Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 pm.
