Obituary

Andrew P. Cancalosi, age 96 of Monmouth Beach, passed away on February 28, 2023 at Monmouth Medical Center with his 2 daughters and brother at his side. Andy was born in Jersey City to the late Frank and Lena Cancalosi and moved to Monmouth Beach in 1958 after vacationing the previous 12 summers there.

He started a career in the newspaper business as an Advertising Sales Executive, and worked for the Jersey Journal for 12 years and The Asbury Park Press for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. After retiring from the APP he was officially a member of their “Pancake Club”.

Andy was an active parishioner of The Church of the Precious Blood; a lifetime member of the Monmouth Beach Fire Department, serving the community for 50 plus years; a long serving member of the Monmouth Beach Board of Education, and served on the Monmouth Beach Shade Tree Commission since May 14, 1963. He served our Country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War.

On July 19, 2022 Andy was presented the "Key to the City" as gesture of thanks for his dedication and service to the community. Anybody who knew Andy knew he exemplified the very spirit of volunteerism and a lifelong devotion to the Borough of Monmouth Beach.

Andy enjoyed many pleasures in life; from his family and friends, especially the Monmouth Beach Coffee Cup Club to the love of gardening and reading.

He was predeceased by his wife Grace in 2000. Surviving are 2 daughters, Judith Ann, Laurie Ann and her partner Cheryl; his brother Jack; his loving nieces and their spouses, Cara Hanson and Bob, Nancy Costanza and Frank, Jill Cancalosi, Lisa Womelsdorf, Carol DePinto and Mark and Pam Sciscilo.
