Ann Scharber Plasteras, 69, of Ocean Grove, New Jersey, passed away on September 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Neptune, New Jersey, Ann was a graduate of Ocean Township High School and attended Georgian Court University. She spent 26 years by her husband Basil’s side working at the family restaurant, the Squires Pub, where many of her recipes would be features on the ala carte and banquet menus. During that time, she was a member of the Monmouth Healthcare Foundation, The Ronald McDonald House, and on the Committee for the Charity Ball.
Ann’s most treasured role was as a parent to her four children; attending every sporting event, serving as a class parent, and as a member of the PTO. Ann adored her grandchildren, and they will greatly miss their Nana.
Ann loved to cook and entertain, and there was always room for one more at her dinner table. In more recent years, she enjoyed tending to her garden in Ocean Grove and was overjoyed when it was featured in the town’s garden tour for five years.
Ann is survived by a large and loving family which includes her four children, James Plasteras, George Plasteras (Kathleen), Vanessa Torres (Vince) and Caroline Habeck (Michael); nine grandchildren, Cade, Cole, Mason, Milania, Harper, Henry, Hazel, James, and Jake; brother, Robert Scharber (Rene) and sister Marybeth Thompson (Chris); and many nieces and nephews. Ann is also survived by her longtime partner, Gorton Wood. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Basil Plasteras, parents, Walter and Dolores Somereve Scharber, and brother, Walter Scharber III.
