Barbara J. La Brecque, age 87 of Rumson, died peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2020, with her loving daughters by her side. Barbara grew up in Due West, South Carolina where she graduated from Erskine College to become a well-loved teacher. She was a communicant of ARP Presbyterian Church in Due West and later a member of St. George’s By the River in Rumson.
Bobbi loved teaching and writing children’s stories, including many Bible stories using little animals to teach heartwarming lessons. She was happiest when she was with her family and will be remembered by many as an inspiration, as she touched so many lives with her big heart. Her love of teaching and her infinite patience will be remembered by many as she was such a caring person who loved unconditionally.
Bobbi, as she preferred to be called, was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Corrie Ferguson and her husband, Alfred E. La Brecque, Jr. along with her brothers Tom, Harold, Charlie and Lester Ferguson, and sisters Azalee, Martha and Mable Ferguson. She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne La Brecque Deane of Wall Township and Amanda La Brecque Stevens and husband Douglas C. Stevens of Fair Haven. GiGi will be greatly missed by her 5 grandsons, Brett, Cole, Ryan, Ford and Trent. She is also survived by her sister Betty Sue Scearce, many nieces and nephews and their respective families as well as many treasured friends.
