Carol Thomas (Rescigno), 85, of Oceanport, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 15th at Monmouth Medical Center. Carol was one of nine children born in Montclair, New Jersey to the late William G. and Anne M. Thomas, of Long Branch, NJ. She was predeceased by her brother William G. Thomas, Jr., sisters Betty Jane Acker, Barbara Thomas-DeSantis, Audrey Thomas Rush, Jacqueline Giglio, Natalie Coppola, and former husband, Anthony G. Rescigno.
As a young woman, Carol loved the beach and shared that love with her children. She spent many hours swimming with them, fearlessly riding the waves and diving off of the high dive. Carol was also an incomparable cook and baker. One of her greatest joys was spending time in the kitchen with her children and grandchildren, taking care to pass on treasured family recipes. A gifted artist, Carol enjoyed drawing and painting with watercolors. The many paintings that she leaves behind are a testament to her natural talent. She had a keen sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was a fierce Parcheesi player, to which her children can attest. She was a lover of all animals and cherished her miniature schnauzer, Oliver. Most of all, Carol adored her family. She will be missed most by those who knew her as their Callie.
Carol is survived by her five children and their spouses: Colleen and Martin Middough, Oceanport, NJ, Anthony and Kerry Rescigno, West Long Branch, NJ, John Rescigno, Oceanport, NJ, Mark and Laura Rescigno, Monmouth Beach, NJ, and Jeffrey & Brenda Rescigno, Sedona, AZ. She leaves behind eleven beloved grandchildren: Brittany, Sarah, Brenna, Jack, Daniel, Michael, Carol, Chas, Olivia, Alena, and Christian. Carol is also survived by her loving sisters Miriam Bonforte and Judy Strollo and many dear nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 800 Ocean Avenue, Long Branch on Thursday, January 21 at 11 am. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
