Carol Ann McMahon Obituary

Carol Ann McMahon, 74, died peacefully in hospice care at Arbor Terrace Shrewsbury on Monday, August 30, 2021.  She moved to Arbor Terrace, 864 Shrewsbury Ave. Tinton Falls, NJ in November 2019 after 24 years living in Oceanport, NJ.

Carol Ann was born March 8, 1947 in Perth Amboy, NJ. She graduated from Perth Amboy High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Monmouth College in 1973. She eventually pursued certifications in substance abuse counseling and began a career as a certified counselor.

After working at a couple of facilities she met Joe McMahon who was working at CPC Behavioral Healthcare. They were married a couple of years later in a ceremony at the beautiful Kirkpatrick Chapel, New Brunswick, NJ. They moved to the shore area and Carol Ann eventually changed jobs to The New Hope Foundation in Freehold, NJ where she worked until retiring in 2017. One of her coworkers expressed condolences upon hearing of her passing and fondly remembered how Carol Ann brought sunshine into a room and that she referred to her as “Juliet” and Joe as “Romeo” because of the deep love and affection they shared and constantly communicated through little notes, cards, and phone calls at lunch and as she left to go home, and especially when you saw them together. They enjoyed almost 30 years together before his passing in 2015.

Carol Ann was a very loving and caring person to all. She was always concerned about others, especially family and friends. She was a person of faith and practiced daily meditation and prayer as a way of growing and keeping herself grounded as she worked through life’s challenges. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.  A good listener, she would end conversations with “I’ll pray for you” and “Have a blessed day”. She formed many strong abiding friendships and had a group of ladies she called her “angels”. She also would reach out to friends when she needed guidance or help herself. She was a friend of Bill’s for 42 years, active in her church, St. Luke’s at 325 Broadway, Long Branch where she attended services, Bible, study, and volunteered at the Thrift Shop. Carol Ann joined a bereavement group at Stephy’s Place after the passing of her husband Joe and found comfort, healing, growth, as well as new friends.

Carol Ann is predeceased by her husband Joseph F. McMahon; her parents, Frank and Catherine Harsanyi; sister Kathleen, and brother Ronald. She is survived by her brother Frank Harsanyi of Levittown, PA and niece, Jeanette C. Torres of Jackson, NJ.
