David Kay, 65, of Monmouth Beach, NJ, passed away suddenly on May 15, 2023. He was born on August 10, 1957, in Manhattan, NY, to Mary and David Kay. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in Dumont, NJ, and graduated from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ and Manhattan College in Bronx, NY. Dave held the position of Financial Analyst at IBM Corporation for many years. For the last five years, he was a contract analyst at the Monmouth County Department of Human Services in Freehold, NJ.
Family was most important to Dave, and everything he did, he did for them. He loved his wife Barbara fiercely and they recently enjoyed celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary on April 30, 2023. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, and his children, Kelly and Thomas. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly Giants games with his son, and enjoyed sharing music with his daughter. He fondly remembered going to Asbury Park’s Bamboozle Festival together in 2012. He enjoyed discussing history and politics with Kelly and Thomas and every conversation was enlightened by his wealth of knowledge. Dave endeavored to be an integral part of his children lives while they were growing up and served for many years as “Class Mom” for both children throughout their schooling at Monmouth Beach Elementary School.
History, movies, cooking and yoga were just a few of Dave’s passions. He also enjoyed classic television shows and could often be heard laughing heartily to Green Acres and Hogan’s Heroes. He enjoyed taking care of the family pets, their dog Cooper and cat Treasure. The late family cat, Captain Sparky Hook, made Dave his favorite family member and could always be found lounging on him much to Dave’s pretend dismay.
Dave was a loyal friend. In addition to valuing the friends he made throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his core group of childhood friends until his last day.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, his daughter Kelly, his son Thomas, his brother Gerard, Gerard’s wife Wanda, his sister Ina, and his cousins Joanne Bauman and William Bredin. He also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
