In Loving Memory of Edward Davis Smith
January 19, 1939 – January 10, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Davis Smith, age 85, who passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025.
Edward was born on January 19, 1939, in East Orange, NJ, to Howard and Ethel Smith. Growing up in Long Branch, NJ, Edward was the younger brother to Phyllis Walters (nee Smith) and Howard Smith. Edward graduated from Long Branch HS and enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Italy where he served as an equipment mechanic. After his military service, he entered into a lifelong career as a forklift technician, dedicating many years to his field of work and always lending a hand to those in need.
Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He is predeceased by his loving wife Mary Smith and son Mark Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Ann Carrigan, and his grandson, Nicholas Smith, along with his sister Phyllis Walters, sisters-in-law Kathleen Fertig, Doris Smith and Grayce Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews, including Kurt, Steven, Andrea, Diane, Tricia, Michele, Susan, Christy, Maureen, Sharon, George, Christine, Vicki, Jennifer, Joseph, and Richard.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on January 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, please arrive by 12:45 pm. Edward will be honored and laid to rest beside his late wife, Mary Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Mercy Center, 1106 Main Street, Asbury Park, NJ 07712, an organization that Edward cherished for its community service, a cause he deeply supported throughout his life.
Edward will be remembered for his wit, humor, and, above all, his unwavering support for his family and friends. Edward was an avid reader and enjoyed gourmet cooking and dining with his wife Mary. He was a rock to those he loved, always there when needed. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Edward Smith.
