Evelyn Ryan (Evie) age 79 of Brick passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2021 in the loving care of her family. Evelyn was born and raised in Coney Island NY before moving to Long Branch where she and her husband Kenneth raised their four loving children. When her husband passed away in 2002 she moved to Brick with her daughter Doreen and her family.
Evelyn worked at Dom’s Willow Deli in Little Silver for many years, making sandwiches and joking with the customers. She also worked at San Alfonso’s Retreat House in Long Branch as a cook for the resident priests and weekly retreatants.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family and bragging about her grandchildren. She would show anyone and everyone endless pictures of them. Most of her wardrobe was t-shirts and sweatshirts with pictures of her grandchildren on them.
Evelyn was also a lover of 50’s music and dancing. You would catch her telling stories about winning a spot on American Bandstand by winning a local dance contest. If music was playing Evelyn was doing the Lindy or the Cha Cha for sure.
You would hear the chant “Let’s Go Mets!” coming from Evelyn anytime the NY Mets were playing. She enjoyed attending games and was able to attend the 6th game of the 1986 World Series with her husband Kenneth, daughter Karen and nephew Stephen. During football season she was cheering on the Jets, but most often cursing at the TV screen.
If Evelyn wasn’t spending time with her family or watching sports, you would definitely find her at the local bingo hall. She would attend bingo several times a week at different local bingo halls. Along with bingo was her love of lottery scratch offs. Her favorite scratch off was the crossword. She would spend hours trying to hit it big!
Evelyn is predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth Ryan Sr., her siblings Josephine Stover, Daniel Timmerman, Wilhelmina Stover, Geraldine Hoyt, Carl Timmerman, Donald Timmerman and William Timmerman.
She is survived by her brother John Timmerman, her children Lisa Bauman (Richie), Kenneth Ryan Jr (Joanne), Doreen Bavosa (T.J.), Karen Wratchford (Chris), 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2021 from 6-8pm at Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 8, 2021 at 10am at Damiano Funeral Home with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
