Floyd G. Pierce Obituary

Floyd G. Pierce, age 97 of West Long Branch, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Born in Long Branch he was a lifelong resident of the shore area. Floyd was a postal carrier for the Long Branch Post Office for 32 years retiring in 1992 and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Deborah Hospital Foundation. Throughout his life he was a proud member of several organizations, including the Moxley Abacus Lodge # 708, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasons, the Shrine of Salaam Shriners in Livingston, the Orange Mountain Shrine Club, the North Shore Shrine Club and Long Branch Old Guard. Mr. Pierce was also a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Long Branch.

Mr. Pierce served our Country honorably in the US Navy during WWII. He received several medals including 11 Battle Stars. He was aboard the U.S.S. San Diego CL 53 Flagship, which was the first warship to enter Tokyo Bay on August 30, 1945, capturing the battleship HIJMS NAGATO which symbolized the unconditional and complete surrender of the Japanese Navy.

Floyd was predeceased by his parents Howard and Marie Pierce and his brothers Lester and Howard. He is survived by his nephews Lester (Karen) Pierce, Gary Pierce, Wayne (Deborah) Pierce and niece Anna Pierce.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 29 from 7 – 9 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Interment will be on Monday, May 1 at 12 pm Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 300 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
