Gabriel Joseph LaConte Sr. passed away on September 2, 2024, in Long Branch, New Jersey, at the age of 79. Born and raised in Newark and then resided in West Orange, NJ, Gabe was a charismatic and larger-than-life personality who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Gabe was a successful businessman. His spirit and passion for boxing as a promoter made him a well-known figure in the community which led to his induction into the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame. Gabe's love for his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family.
After retiring, Gabe could often be found sitting on his favorite bench at Pier Village in Long Branch, a spot that became synonymous with his presence.
Gabe was predeceased by his beloved wife Rita; his parents, Jerry and Mary; and his brother, Joe. He leaves behind a loving family, his sister Carmela; his sons Giriaco and his wife Gina, Gabriel Jr. and his wife Oriana, Kevin and his wife Sharonda, and his daughter Alanis; grandchildren Gabriel, Logan, and Ledger and numerous nieces and nephews including Grace, Maryann, Jerry, Angelo, Carla, Jennifer, and Richard.
Gabe's legacy is carried on through his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch. Funeral Saturday 9 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at St. Michael’s Church in Long Branch, Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
