George A. Katzenberger Obituary

George A. Katzenberger, 85, of Little Silver, died peacefully on December 23, 2021, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Montclair, he lived in South Orange and then Oceanport for over 35 years before moving to Little Silver 3 years ago.

He was the son of George A. Katzenberger Sr. and Carol Katzenberger.

He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1954 and served for 3 years in the United States Marine Corps. George completed his education at Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) and went on to a successful career with NJ Bell Telephone as a District Manager.

George met his wife Fran (Ciccone) in high school but his years in the Marines kept them apart for a while. After marrying in 1959, they started their family and settled in Brigantine, NJ. His career moved him several times including 14 years in South Orange, NJ before moving to his beloved house on the Shrewsbury River in Oceanport. This is where he spent countless days and nights enjoying the water and the amazing sunsets.

Aside from spending time with his family, George also enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, and his true obsession: genealogy. He was most proud of his life’s accomplishments of achieving Eagle Scout, his service to our country in the Marine Corps, and the legacy of his wife, children, and grandchildren…and a life well-lived.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Fran Katzenberger; his sons, George J. Katzenberger and his wife Shannon Kelly; Nick Katzenberger and his wife Gretchen; and his daughter Carol; and his 3 grandchildren Hailey, Nicholas and Matthew Katzenberger.
