Gertrude Chocallo Hynek of Long Branch died peacefully on May 4, 2021 at the Arbor Terrace in Tinton Falls. She was born in Kinston, Pennsylvania and was a resident of East Brunswick for many years before moving to Long Branch. Gertrude graduated from Larksville High School with a full scholarship to Misericordia University and winning a fellowship in Biology to Marquette University. She worked as an inspector for the Food and Drug Administration located in Philadelphia for a while and was later employed as a chemist for the Army’s Research and Development in Philadelphia. Gertrude also was employed as a biology teacher for the South River School District before retiring.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter J. Hynek and is survived by her daughter Stefanie Hynek Meyer, her son-in-son Thomas Meyer of Millstone Township and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch. Entombment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum in Marlboro.
