Giovanna “Bonnie” Tarantolo O’Rourke, 84, of Ocean died peacefully on September 3, 2022 at Imperial Healthcare Center in Neptune. Bonnie was born in Long Branch and graduated Long Branch High School in 1955 and Berkeley College of Business. She had many, many friends in every activity she participated in. She was a secretary for Bendix Corp in Red Bank and the Law Office of Joseph Meehan, ESQ in West Long Branch before retiring. She was a parishioner of Holy Innocents Church in Neptune; an avid reader; loved the NY Yankees and NY Giants; loved to swim and participated in water aerobics classes for many years; played cards; loved Broadway shows and seeing plays; Sudoku; trips to the beach; visiting Siesta Key, FL with her family; spending time with her grandchildren who were the joy of her life.
Bonnie lead a life of public service volunteering with many organizations over her lifetime including St. Vincent De Paul at Holy Innocents where she served as president for a time; volunteered at Jersey Shore Medical Center in the Chaplain's office; Organizer of Blepharospasm Eye Disease Support Group; volunteered at Ronald McDonald House; and crocheted hats with the ladies of Hamilton Methodist Church in Neptune for cancer patients. She was kind and generous and gave freely of her time and resources.
Surviving are husband, Thomas F. O’Rourke; her son Thomas J. O’Rourke and his partner Jamie White; her daughter Mary O’Rourke and her husband William Reich; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Tarantolo; Gerald and Patricia Tarantolo; Joseph and Elissa Tarantolo; her sister Marie Sorrentino, 3 grandchildren, Lyndsie Yamrus, Carly Yamus and Nina Marie O’Rourke and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7 from 4-7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Funeral, Thursday 9 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at Star of the Sea Church in Long Branch. Interment will be private.
