Giovanna “Jean” Hesslein, 89, of Eatontown, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her sister, Angela Marone of Eatontown and her three children: son Robert Hesslein and her daughter-in-law Laurie, son Stephen Hesslein and her daughter-in-law Kathleen, and daughter Judith and her son-in-law Anthony Molinaro. Jean was a proud grandmother to Dara, Jordan, Daniel, Stephany and Brian, and a loving greatgrandmother to her seven great-grandchildren; Nathan, Natalie, Savannah, Tinsley, Caden, Chloe and Leah.
Jean was born on September 17, 1935 to Angelo and Sarah Tomaino of Long Branch and she carried the pride of her hometown throughout her lifetime. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1953 along with her friends that she held dear. In 2022, Jean attended her 70th LBHS reunion. She dedicated much of her career in an administrative role at Fort Monmouth and found her future there advancing in the Procurement Department to the role of contract specialist, where her hard work and commitment were admired.
Through her work and in her free time, Jean travelled the world. She had a deep love for gardening and bird watching, and found joy in creating beauty in and around her home. She also spent hours on arts and crafts, including painting and various projects. She also enjoyed reading novels, working on complicated puzzles, playing mahjong and bingo, and in recent years was an active member of the Eatontown Senior Center, forming cherished bonds within the community. Her warmth, creativity, and passion for life will be deeply missed by her family and friends. As we remember her, we celebrate her love of family, her boundless energy, and her joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23rd from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, New Jersey, and a funeral service will be held Thursday, October 24th at 11 a.m. at funeral home.
