Gunter Josef Bussem Obituary

Gunter Josef (Joe) Bussem, aged 80, of Oceanport, NJ, passed away on the evening of November 27, 2024. Born on August 21, 1944, in Hagenbach, Germany, he was a cherished member of the Bussem family and the devoted husband of Annmarie Bussem. Joe is also lovingly remembered by his children, Josef and Michelle Bussem, and his brother, Hermann Bussem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Helene Sevak and Josef Bussem.

Joe graduated from Shore Regional High School in 1964 and soon after served his country in the Army from July 1965 to July 1967. Following his military service, he embarked on a lifelong career with a strong work ethic as an automotive machinist, if you worked in the auto repair industry in Monmouth county during the passed 40 years, chances are you knew Joe in the shop.

His passion for muscle cars and having a good time often got him some sort of trouble in his younger days, but he always seemed to know the right people to get himself out of most situations. I’m sure many of you know a story or two.

He was always on the move. Going to Costco to get a chicken for his dog Geno. Heading over to the race track to cash in another winning bet slip. Stopping by his brother’s house to bust his chops or get his chops busted. Going out to play cards. Getting out on the water to do a little(or a lot of) fishing. Driving down to Atlantic City for a night out with his loving wife. Stopping at a few choice auto shops to see his buddies. The man couldn’t sit still.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joe can be made honoring his generous spirit to the American Heart Association via mail to PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284, or via the web by visiting https://www.heart.org/?form=FUNELYZXFBW.
