Irene Ramos Obituary

Irene Ann Ramos, known lovingly to family and friends as Yena, Nunny, and Captain, passed away on April 8, 2026, in New Jersey at the age of 94.

Born on December 16, 1931, in Clairton, Irene lived a life marked by devotion, strength, and quiet grace. She was a woman of deep faith, a Christian who carried her beliefs with her in the way she treated others, the way she faced challenges, and the way she cared for the people and places she loved. Her life was one of service, love, and steady dedication, and she leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered with affection and respect by all who knew her.

Irene was a proud high school graduate and carried herself with the dignity and determination of someone who understood the value of perseverance and hard work. She was also a U.S. Army veteran, an honor that reflected her courage, discipline, and commitment to something greater than herself. Her service was one of the many ways she demonstrated her strength of character, and it remained a source of pride throughout her life. In addition to her military service, she was a proud mother, and that role stood among the most meaningful callings of her life.

Those who knew Irene will remember her as a kind, wise, and creative woman whose presence brought comfort and warmth. She had a natural ability to make others feel welcome, and her steady manner offered reassurance to those around her. Her wisdom was often shared in simple but meaningful ways, and her kindness was expressed through everyday acts of love and consideration. She was the kind of woman whose guidance was trusted and whose company was cherished.

Irene enjoyed watching football games and loved going to see horse racing, pastimes that brought her joy and excitement. She was also an accomplished cook, and her meals were remembered not only for their flavor but also for the care with which they were prepared. Cooking was one of the many ways she showed love, and her kitchen was often a place of comfort and connection. In addition to her gifts in the kitchen, she was a skilled painter with a creative spirit that shone through in her work. She also took great pride in her gardening skills, and she found satisfaction in nurturing beauty and life through her hands. Her talents reflected a woman who appreciated both discipline and artistry, and who found joy in creating and caring.

Family was central to Irene’s life, and she will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She is survived by her son Robert M. Ramos; her brothers, Alex Harsmanka and John Harsmanka, and by her sister-in-law, Penny Harsmanka, the spouse of her deceased brother Mike Harsmanka. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as an equal number of great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom were touched by her presence in their lives. Her family will remember her for the love she gave, the examples she set, and the enduring strength she brought to every relationship. She will surely be missed by relatives and friends alike.

Irene’s passing was due to a sepsis infection, but her life was defined by much more than her final days. She lived with resilience, purpose, and a deep sense of care for others. Her memory will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew her best, and her legacy will continue through the family she loved and the many lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us, the kindness, wisdom, and creativity that shaped her life will be remembered always.
