James Malgieri Obituary

James (Jim) Malgieri, 60, currently of Marco Island, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.

Jim was born in Jersey City and grew up in West Long Branch. He attended Seton Hall University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Finance. He began his illustrious 34-year career on Wall Street in 1982 at Morgan Stanley. From there he held numerous managerial positions at Cantor Fitzgerald, Lehman Brothers, and most recently BNY Mellon where he spent the majority of his career. During his tenure at BNY Mellon, Jim went on to become Chief Executive of the Bank’s Broker-Dealer Services business and became one of the most senior figures in the Collateral Management and Securities Finance Business. During this time, his expertise helped in implementing necessary regulatory change within the short-term financing markets during the credit crisis of 2008. He retired in 2017 as EVP and Global Head of Collateral Management and Segregation Services.

More recently he was a Board Member of the President’s Advisory Group, Seton Hall University; the Board of Visitors, St. Joseph’s University; Saphyre; Standard Custody and Trust Company; and Strategic Advisor at Pirum. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Global ISF in 2012. He also received the Alumni Service Award from his beloved Seton Hall University in 2017.

Jim loved life and loved his family even more. His passion was golf. He was a member of Deal Golf & Country Club, Deal, and Island Country Club, Marco Island, FL. In his retirement on Marco Island he took up boating. While he wasn’t the most skilled boat captain, he was certainly the most fun! Every day was Saturday for him. He could be found with a glass of red wine in his hand and his toes in the sand. We will all miss him terribly.

He was predeceased by his parents Alice Malgieri in 1980 and John Malgieri in 2019. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki of 35 years, daughters Alyssa (Chris) Osorio, Danielle, and son James (Morgan), brother John (Stacey), sister Mary (Steve) Kelleher as well as several  beloved nieces and nephews.
