John Gizzi

John Gizzi, age 70 of Oceanport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Imperial Healthcare in Neptune. John was born to John and Catherine Gizzi on April 2, 1952 in West Long Branch, NJ.

John was a graduate of Shore Regional High School and Monmouth College both in West Long Branch. He was a long-time communicant of St. Michael’s Church in in West End, Long Branch.  John was passionate about many things which included the beach and walking the “boards” and chatting with friends, fishing, his Harley, cigars, and sports, especially the NY Yankees.  John’s morning wouldn’t be complete without his copy of the NY Post and his favorite biscotti. All of John’s friends were treated as family members and he always enjoyed good times with them all.

Although John worked in several jobs and industries, he spent most of his career as a mortgage broker, most recently working at Advisors Mortgage Group, assisting people with attaining their dream of home ownership.

John was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine Gizzi and his sister Suzanne McConaghy. He is survived by his sister Stephanie Mace and her husband Peter along with their daughter Kim, his brother-in-law H.Gerard McConaghy, his niece Margaret McConaghy-Clark and his nephew Patrick McConaghy.  He is also survived by his loyal friends, Angelo Massaro and Michael Conte, who were with him to the end.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, September 13 from 5 – 8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14 at 12 noon at St. Michael’s Church, 800 Ocean Avenue in Long Branch. Interment of cremains will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. The family requests that donations be made to Oceanport First Aid  Squad.
