Jose Reis Bento, 84, passed away on October 14, 2025, in Long Branch, New Jersey. Born on July 8, 1941, in Portugal, he moved to the United States, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his community and family.

Jose served in the Portuguese Army, where he was known for his reliability and camaraderie. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a truck driver with Pax Construction, a role he held with dedication and pride until his retirement.

A devout member of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Jose was deeply involved in his church community, participating in various activities and forming lasting bonds with fellow congregants.

Jose's personality was as vibrant as it was dependable. He was the heart of humor in any gathering, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. An avid lover of the outdoors, he spent many joyful days fishing and hunting. Summers were often spent in Portugal, reconnecting with his roots and family. A passionate fan of the Sporting soccer team, he never missed a game, and he was a proud member of the Long Branch Portuguese Club, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and cultural connections.

Jose is survived by his loving wife, Emilia Bento; sons, Henrique, Carlos, and Daniel; daughter, Sonia Halen;  sister, Luzia Santos and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Pereira Bento and Ludovina Reis; son, Luis Bento; and siblings, Virginia Batista, Manuel Bento, Maria Lopes, and Alice da Silva.

Jose's legacy of kindness, reliability, and community spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have been part of his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17 from 5-8 pm at Damiano Funeral Home. The Mass will be held on Saturday, October 18 at 9:30 am at Star of the Sea Church in Long Branch followed by the burial at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport.
