Josephine "Sister" Bottone, aged 84, passed away on September 28, 2024, in Freehold, New Jersey. Born on August 3, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Jean and Michael Bottone, Josephine was a cherished member of her family and community.
Josephine, affectionately known as Josey, spent her formative years in Long Branch, New Jersey, attending Long Branch Public Schools and later Parsippany Hills High School. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Saint Elizabeth College in Morristown, New Jersey, where she continued her education, embracing a lifelong love of learning.
Josey's independence was a defining trait, leading her to reside in various group homes, including locations in Chatham and Lakewood, New Jersey. Her vibrant personality and passion for life endeared her to many, including a dedicated team of caregivers who loved and supported her throughout her journey.
A lover of words and melodies, Josephine found joy in writing, reading, and listening to music. Her hobbies also included shopping, a pastime that brought her great delight and a sense of connection to the vibrant world around her.
Josephine leaves behind a loving family, including her sister Michele Critelli, brother-in-law Larry Critelli, her brother Michael Bottone Jr., sister-in-law Kathy Bottone, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Michael Bottone; her sister, Barbara Robertson; brother-in-law, Bucky Robertson; and niece, Jeanie Eilers.
Contributions in memory of Josephine can be made to the United Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, an organization close to her heart.
The Damiano Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements, ensuring that Josephine's legacy is honored and remembered with the utmost respect and care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home followed by a 1 pm Mass at Star of the Sea Church in Long Branch. Entombment will be at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence by selecting the Tribute/Guestbook link above.
