Lucy Ann (Ferrin) Sweeney passed peacefully on March 7th, 2022 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Lucy was born in Long Branch to John and Joan Ferrin, though she grew up in Oceanport alongside her two older brothers Anthony and John. She was a graduate of Maple Place Middle School and Shore Regional High School, eventually graduating with her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Monmouth University.
She dedicated her career to helping children. She worked as a counselor at the Children's Crisis Unit at Monmouth Medical Center before becoming a student teacher at Betty McElmon Elementary. But after meeting the love of her life, John Sweeney, in 1987, she decided to start a family of her own. Settling in West Long Branch, over her 29 years of marriage, Lucy had four children for whom she dedicated every waking hour. Always saying it was the most important and fulfilling job, Lucy in effect became a full time chef, therapist, stylist, agent, chauffeur, among other roles necessary to be filled for the betterment of her children. Anyone who knew her could vouch for the hard work and dedication she put into raising a family, and the selflessness she always displayed. Through her kids, she spread these qualities to anyone with whom their paths crossed. She imparted infinite wisdom, created a warm and welcoming home, and passed on what is now the family passion for all things Disney.
She was predeceased by her father John Ferrin and is survived by her husband John; sons Michael, Luke & Jack; daughter Grace; mother Joan; brothers, Anthony and John, and an endless amount of family members who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday March 14, 2022 from 4 - 8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 15 at 10:30 am at Star of the Sea Church, 101 Chelsea Avenue in Long Branch.
