Maria D'Angelo Pota, known to her loved ones as Maria, peacefully passed away on July 2, 2023, at the age of 96 in Tinton Falls, NJ. She was born on March 17, 1927, in Castel Volturno, Italy.
Maria's life was filled with love, family, and cherished friendships. She was a second mother to many and developed deep, long-lasting bonds with everyone she met. Growing up on a farm in the region of Campagna, Italy, Maria loved sharing stories of her childhood. As an adult, she bravely moved to America on her own and it was there that she met the love of her life, Tullio, in 1957. They married on Memorial Day and settled in Long Branch and then Oceanport, where they welcomed their children, Louis and Mary Grace.
Maria's home was always open to family and friends, who gathered for special occasions and conversations over her delicious cakes, cookies, and a cup of espresso. Her laughter brought people together for over 60 years. Maria's grandsons, Sean and Eric, were the joy of her life, and she cherished them deeply.
Maria found solace and strength in her faith and was a member of Holy Trinity Church of Christ the King Parish in Long Branch. In her free time, Maria indulged in her love for Italian culture, music, and her family. She took pride in her vegetable garden and cherished her fig tree. Maria had a wide circle of friends and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, singing, and dancing.
Maria will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Her warmth, love, and generosity were a true blessing. She is survived by her son, Louis Pota, daughter-in-law, Christine Grossmann Pota, grandsons, Sean Edward and Eric Tullio Pota, nephews, Generose, Rocco, and Antonio Traetto, niece, Maria Traetto D'Iorio, and cousin, Vincenzina Montesano.
