Marie Petti, age 90 of Allenhurst, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2020. Marie was born in Newark, NJ, the only daughter of Peter and Josephine Rosati. She grew up in the Ironbound section of Newark, graduated from East Side High School, and then went to work for the telephone company. She married Albert Petti in 1953. After spending the early years of their marriage in Newark, they moved “down the shore” to Point Pleasant, and later to Allenhurst where they lived for the next five decades.
Marie was a faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Deal, and a member of the St. Mary’s School PTA where she met many of her friends. She was a long-time member of the Allenhurst Beach Club and enjoyed summer days relaxing on the beach. Marie loved to sit on her porch where she would share stories and many laughs with friends and neighbors. She was an avid sports fan, particularly fond of the New York Yankees.
Marie will be missed by her entire family and the many friends who spanned her life from Newark to Allenhurst, all of whom she welcomed into her home with open arms. Marie’s Italian cooking was legendary and her specialties numerous. Her eggplant parmigiana was the gold standard against which all others were measured, as were her meatballs. There were never too many people, and it was never too late to cook. If a family member or friend was sick or in need, Marie would go to them with food and comfort for as long as needed. Her heart was enormous and her energy boundless.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Albert and her brothers Vincent (Jimmy) and Peter. She is survived by her daughters, Michele Petti of Allenhurst and Lisa Zeto and her husband Michael of New Providence. Marie was devoted to her grandchildren, Alexandra, Robert, and Sarah. She cherished every moment with them, attending all of their sporting events, and celebrating each of their many achievements. Also surviving are her brother Norman Rosati, sister-in-law Renee Rosati, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at a future date at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Deal, NJ once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. The family expresses their sincerest gratitude to the entire staff at the Spring Grove Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, New Providence, NJ, for the care given to Marie.
