Mary Elizabeth Flanagan

Mary Elizabeth Flanagan, age 73, passed away on March 31, 2025 in Hazlet. Born on December 6, 1951 in Jersey City she attended St. Joseph's primary school followed by St. Michael's Union City high school, laying a foundation for her lifelong passion for the arts.

She blossomed into an accomplished artist and author, celebrated for her poetry and paintings which were infused with the same warmth and light she carried in her everyday interactions. Mary herself was a beacon of joy and creativity, touching the lives of those around her with her cheerful spirit. Her legacy will continue to inspire through her artistic contributions and the fond memories she leaves with her loved ones.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marion (Lynch) Flanagan, her brother James, and sister Eileen Hyland.

She is survived by her brother Robert Flanagan and his wife Lynne; nephews Kevin Flanagan and his wife Michele, Patrick Flanagan and his wife Sandra; niece Rachel Creighton and her husband Russell; sister-in-law Pat Dutton; and her grandnephews Ryan, Conor, Brendan, Charles, and grandniece Mary Catherine.  

Visitation will be held at Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 5-7 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 9 am at the funeral home with a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Jerome Church in West Long Branch. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
