It is with great sadness that the family of Mary C. Hughes announces her passing on December 21, 2025, at the age of 86 to be with the Lord. Mary, was a woman of faith, kindness, and generosity, who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on March 14, 1939, in Long Branch, New Jersey, Mary's journey through life was one of purpose and unwavering commitment to her values, religion and community. Mary was a proud graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, where she cultivated a love for learning and a spirit of service that would define much of her life. After graduation, she embarked on a fulfilling career at T&M Associates, an engineering firm where her talents and work ethic shone brightly.
A devout Catholic, Mary lived her faith through action. She was a pillar in her church community of St. Dorothea's Roman Catholic Church, often volunteering her time and resources to support various initiatives. Her faith was her guiding light, and it inspired her to serve others with a compassionate heart.
Travel was one of Mary's greatest passions. Her most memorable trips were to Ireland, the birthplace of her parents. She enjoyed spending time with her many relatives still calling Ireland their home. In addition to her love of travel, Mary dedicated countless hours to various non-profit organizations. Her altruistic nature was evident in the way she selflessly gave her time to causes she believed in. St. Vincent de Paul Society was one of the many causes that Mary held dear to her heart. Her legacy of volunteerism will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to work alongside her.
While Mary has been predeceased by her father, Patrick M. Hughes, her mother, Bridget D. Hughes, and her brother, Patrick J. Hughes, she leaves behind a loving family. Her niece Maureen (Hughes) Lloyd, nephew James Hughes, great-niece Brielle, and great-nephews Dylan and James will hold dear the countless moments of joy and wisdom she imparted upon them.
As we bid farewell to Mary, we reflect on a life that was filled with purpose, love, and an enduring commitment to making the world a better place. Mary's journey on earth has concluded, but her spirit will forever be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege to know her. Rest in peace, Mary, and thank you for the beauty you brought into our lives.
