Michael L. Strano Obituary

Michael Louis Strano, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 6, 2021 at home surrounded by his four adoring children, Kenneth, Brian, Robert and Lorraine.  Michael was born in Newark, NJ and graduated from East Side High School.  In November 1941, at age 16, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War 2.  He left active duty in 1946 and served in both the U.S. Navy Reserve and U.S. Air Force Reserve until his retirement at the Rank of Major in 1975.  Michael received his undergraduate degree from Montclair State University and his graduate degree from Seton Hall University. While studying at Montclair, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Paternoster, and they were married on June 25, 1950.  Michael was a teacher and guidance counselor at Union High School in Union, NJ until his retirement in 1985.

 Michael was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Bridget, three siblings Joseph, Marie and Ann, and his loving wife Evelyn.  He is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. 

Visitation will be from 10AM to 12PM, Friday, December 17 at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue (corner of Third Avenue), Long Branch, NJ. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm at Star of the Sea Church, Long Branch, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675-8517.
