Paulo Manuel Amado, 53 of West Long Branch passed away in his home surrounded by family on Friday, March 25, 2022.
Paulo, born on January 21, 1969 in Torres Novas, Portugal, moved to Long Branch, NJ in 1985 where he spent the last 37 years. He arrived to the United States as a teenager ready to live the 'American Dream’, was a devoted member of “Os Lusitanos” soccer team and always remained loyal to his newfound community.
Paulo was a proud member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 5, and took great pride and paid extreme attention to detail to his work. While he was an exceptional hard worker, watching sports, socializing with friends and beaming with pride about his family are the things that truly brought a smile to his face.
He was a proud member of the Portuguese Club of Long Branch, and if he wasn’t having “um café” at Por Do Sol with his pals, you could almost certainly find him at Monmouth Racetrack trying to win big (although he will always admit he came ‘2nd again!’). He was an avid lover of all sports; hockey, baseball, football but most of all soccer, with a deep love for all things Sporting. This was a passion he passed along to his daughters - “his girls” as he called them.
Paulo was a humble man who met everyone with warmth, kindness and compassion. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Anabela Amado and his daughters Gabrielle Amado and Victoria Amado. He is also survived by his father Amadeu Vieira, his mother Maria Alice Amado, and his siblings Nuno Amado, Briana Vieira and Jason Vieira. He was predeceased by his grandfather Manuel Vieira; grandmother Emilia Vieira; grandfather Jose Vasco Amado; step-mother Ana Maria Vieira and brother Frank Vieira.
A visitation will be held on Monday March 28 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. A funeral mass in Paulo’s honor will be held at Star of the Sea Church at 1:30pm Tuesday, followed by the burial at Woodbine Cemetery & Mausoleum in Oceanport, NJ. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence by selecting the Tribute/Guestbook link above.
