Phyllis Boyle Obituary

Phyllis Boyle, 95, of the Seabrook Community in Tinton Falls died Friday, January 20, 2023 at home Phyllis was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in Freeland, MI until the age of 9 when her mother, Ida Ward, married Max Legere and moved the family to Freehold, NJ.  Phyllis completed her early education and graduated from Freehold High School in 1944.  She then went on to Mercer Nursing School and graduated in 1948 as a Registered Nurse.  In 1946 Phyllis married Robert Boyle, they lived in Trenton Lakewood and Long Branch for a time before moving to West Long Branch where they lived for over 40 years and raised 5 children.  They were a happily married team for 55 years.  Phyllis was a sports and game enthusiast, she enjoyed softball, baseball, volleyball, badminton, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, scrabble, card games and reading and she loved her bowling and kept at it into her 80s.  But most of all she loved babies, Phyllis loved being a mother, godmother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother (GG).  Through the years Phyllis was an active member of the Freehold, Trenton, Lakewood and Long Branch Presbyterian churches, making friends everywhere she went.  Working as a nurse in area hospitals and Bendix, supervising nurse at Family and Children’s Services, neighborhood nurse and assisting with bookkeeping in her husband’s businesses kept her busy but she always found time for family and friends.  She was always quick to volunteer or lend a hand when anyone had a need.  After her husband passed Phyllis joined the Seabrook community where she made many friends at the game and puzzle tables over the 22 years that she lived there.  As Phyllis reached a point where she needed assistance, she was so grateful for the loving caregivers she had at Seabrook.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Robert Boyle in 2001, her son, Kevin Boyle in 2004, daughter, Lois Boyle Strain in 2010 and her sister, Judith Legere Ryan in 1987.  She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Frank Melicharek of Bordentown, NJ, Janice and Roger Stewart of Placentia, CA and Colleen and Gerald Crawford of Jackson, NJ., her sister, Saundra Legere Wilson of Neptune, NJ, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Phyllis was a very special person who had a knack for knowing just what you needed and doing what she could to help.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31 from 4 to 7pm. at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., Long Branch.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 10 to 11am.at Seabrook in the Garden Room of the Renaissance building, 3002 Essex Rd, Tinton Falls, NJ.  Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery, Monmouth Rd, West Long Branch, NJ at 12:30.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Phyllis’s name to the Seabrook Resident Care Fund or to the Protestant Community at Seabrook.
