Richard A. Gallo, Sr. Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the Gallo Family of Long Branch announces the passing of Richard Augustine Gallo on March 27, 2021. Richard was born on May 11, 1932 at his grandparent’s home on Springdale Avenue in Long Branch.  He grew up in Long Branch and graduated from the Long Branch High School in 1951. Richard attended NJ State College and Monmouth College. He was an US Navy Veteran serving from 1953 – 1959 and then was employed by the Department of Defense at Ft. Monmouth for 30 years retiring 1988. Richard was a life member of the Port-Au-Peck Fire Co. where he served as Captain in 1965 and a member of the Oceanport Lions Club and the Long Branch Elks Lodge.  

He was predeceased by his parents, Augustine and Mary Gallo, his brothers, Joseph and Dominick “Dick” Gallo. Surviving are his 4 wonderful sons and daughters-in-laws, Richard Jr. and Susan, John and Judy, Thomas and James and Diane; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, his sister in law, Ann Gallo; many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and the love of his life Patricia Locher. Together they enjoyed over 30 years wintering in Del Ray Beach, Florida, cruising the Bahamas, trips to Key West and returning each year to Jersey to summer with his family.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6 from 4-7 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave in Long Branch. Funeral Wednesday, with the Service to begin at 11:30 am at the funeral home followed by the interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Long Branch Elks, BPOE #742, 150 Garfield Avenue, Long Branch NJ 07740 or Port-Au-Peck Volunteer Fire Company, 433 Myrtle Avenue, Oceanport NJ 07757.
