Richard Van Sanyi, age 77 passed away April 19, 2023 surrounded by family and loved ones in Long Branch. Born in Newark, and raised in Keansburg, Richard served his country honorably as a Corporal in the Marines, and was stationed in Vietnam from 1963 to 1969. Serving bravely and honorably, he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge.
After serving his country, he became a master electrician for most of his life, with the Local 400 IBEW of Wall NJ. In his spare time, he traveled across the United States, as well as the world, and had a talent and passion for photography. He was an eloquent writer and could often be found at Sandy Hook in his Camry listening to the Moody Blues, watching the tides. He enjoyed international cuisine, had a keen knowledge for history, and was known to be a lover of a good IPA.
Richard was a loyal son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was quiet but strong, witty and kind, a friend you could rely on - didn’t matter the time. He was brave until the end and left us all too suddenly.
