Robert (Bob) J. Gronczniak, age 71, passed away on August 12, 2024, after spending a beautiful day on the beach while vacationing in New Jersey with his wife and two little dogs. Born on March 21, 1953, in Troy, NY, Bob led a fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, community, and a multitude of interests.
Bob graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, after attending Stillwater Central School in Stillwater, NY, and Saint Paul the Apostle School in Mechanicville, NY. His professional journey included significant roles such as Principal Consultant at NYSTEC, Project Manager at SAIC, and Operations Manager at Jardine Lloyd Thompson, where he made impactful contributions in each position.
Bob's generosity extended into his retirement years, during which he volunteered for the Red Cross, the Regional Food Bank, and the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. In 2021, he joined the Knights of Columbus and became an active member of the Latham-Colonie Council, where he served as Council Trustee, participated as a ceremonial team member, and contributed to ongoing community service projects. Alongside his volunteering, Bob also worked as a driver for the transportation department at Keeler Motors—a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
Bob and his wife, Susan, enjoyed many hobbies together over their 37 years of marriage, including traveling, hiking, sightseeing, jet skiing on Sacandaga Lake, and attending summer concerts at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Many of those years were shared with their beloved little dogs. Bob will be remembered for his generous nature, always the first to lend a hand to someone in need. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, and community service that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Gronczniak Smith; his siblings, Don (Anna Marie Boninfante) Gronczniak, and Sue Lucente; and his nieces and nephews, Nicole Smith Russell, Chris Lucente, Sean Smith, and Jennifer Boninfante-Bargas. He is also survived by his beloved furry companions Bowser, Penny and Take Down Two. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Joseph Gronczniak.
A service to honor Bob's life will be held at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumite Road, Loudonville, NY on October 5th at 11 am, followed by a celebration of life. Contributions in memory of Bob may be made to the Latham-Colonie Council 3394 at PO Box 221, Latham, N.Y. 12110 or any of the charities that were meaningful to Bob.
