Robert (Lucian) Chiarello

Robert (Lucian) Chiarello, 68, of Ocean Township, NJ passed away peacefully at home on the evening of November 12th, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children.

Born August 20th, 1953 to Vito and Gloria Chiarello, Robert was raised in Far Rockaway, NY. He grew up alongside two brothers, Charles and Paul, and one sister, Gloria. He attended Cathedral Preparatory School. He went on to work as a hairdresser for 48 years. For 28 years, he owned Salon L in Allenhurst, NJ with his wife, Joan. 

Robert was also a gifted artist, musician and songwriter. He performed for many years in his band, Mode/IQ, alongside his longtime friend and collaborator Nicholas Velardi. In his free time, Robert enjoyed gardening, practicing yoga and spending quality time with loved ones.

He is predeceased by his parents, Vito and Gloria Chiarello, and brothers, Charles and Paul Chiarello. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan, his son, Gabe and partner Nicole Gifford, his daughter and son-in-law, Vitina and Anthony Sena, sister, Gloria Nixon, and countless extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue, Long Branch on Wednesday, November 17th from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 800 N. Ocean Avenue, Long Branch on Thursday, November 18th at 10:30am. Entombment will be at St. Joseph's Mausoleum in Keyport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fulfill FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean County (fulfillnj.org) at 3300 Route 66, Neptune, NJ 07753. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence by selecting the Tribute/Guestbook link above.
