Sarah Jane Anderson, 84, of Long Branch (formerly of Asbury Park), New Jersey was born on March 31, 1937 in Bethel, North Carolina. She departed this life on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Imperial Healthcare Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Neptune, NJ, with two of her loving daughters, Ethel and Barbara at her bedside. She was the daughter of the late James Sr. and Ethel Worsley.
Sarah was raised in Bethel, N.C., and attended Bethel Union High School. She lived in Greenville, NC for a number of years. In May 1956, Sarah married her first love Jessie Anderson Jr. Together they had seven children. In 1966, Sarah and her family relocated to Tinton Falls, NJ. She worked as a homemaker in Rumson for several years.
She was a faithful member of For Word Church, Inc. under the leadership of the late Bishop Richard Worsley, Jr. Sarah, “Miss Sarah” as she was affectionately known, was a woman who spoke her mind, lived, laughed, and loved unapologetically. As a woman who loved to move, she danced her way into the hearts of everyone she encountered.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jessie “Bud” Anderson, Jr., brothers, Vernon Staton, Jr., Bishop Richard Worsley, Jr. (Doris), brother-in-law Robert Lewis Battle, brother-in-law Curtis Cobbs, and brother-in-law Tony Lynn.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, five sisters: Rosa Cobbs, Freehold, NJ; Mary Lynn, Greenville, NC; Mattie Hill, Ayden, NC; Ann Murchison, Washington, DC; Jessie Cotton, Winterville, NC; seven children: daughter, Ethel Anderson (Milton), Greenville, NC; son, Kenneth Anderson, Sr. (Pamela), Edgewood, MD; daughter, Lezeila Anderson (Jimmy), Long Branch, NJ; daughter, Barbara Pruitt (Ovester), Long Branch, NJ; Delone Anderson, Neptune, NJ; Jerome Anderson (Stephanie), Neptune, NJ; and youngest daughter, Jessie Mae Anderson, Long Branch, NJ; twenty-five grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
The viewing will be held beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Abundant Life Church of God, 632 Colts Neck Road in Freehold with the Celebration of Life service to begin at 12 pm.
