Stefano Russo Obituary

Stefano "Steve" Russo, aged 78, of Long Branch, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on August 2, 1947, in the picturesque town of Santo Stefano Del Sole, Italy, Steve was a son to the late Pasquale Russo and Clementina De Feo. He grew up in a vibrant household alongside his brother, Domenico, and sisters, Mafalda, Geraldina, Anna Filomena, and Ida Russo.

Steve's early life in Italy laid a strong foundation for his passion for education, leading him to pursue extensive studies in his homeland. His pursuit of knowledge and commitment to his studies were a testament to his dedication to personal growth and development. After completing his education, Steve embarked on a journey to the United States, where he would eventually become a revered member of the community in Long Branch, New Jersey.

In his professional life, Steve was highly respected as the Director at Wegman's, where his leadership and innovative ideas greatly contributed to the company's success. His colleagues and employees regarded him as a fair and inspiring figure who always sought to bring out the best in those around him. Steve's work was not just a job but a significant part of his identity, and he approached it with the same fervor and attention to detail that he applied to all aspects of his life.

A devout Catholic, Steve lived his faith through his actions, embodying the principles of love, charity, and kindness. He was an active participant in his church community, where he formed lasting friendships and provided support to many through his generous spirit and wise counsel. Steve's interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. A connoisseur of the earth, he had a special talent for making wine, a skill that he had honed since his youth in Italy. His love for gardening was evident in the lush, verdant spaces he cultivated, which brought beauty and serenity to all who experienced them. These hobbies were not only a testament to his connection to his Italian roots but also a way for him to share his legacy and love for nature with his family and friends.

Family was the cornerstone of Steve's life, and he was a beloved figure to his nieces and nephews, Alessandra Ruta, Monica Ruta, Dario Cioppa, Diana Cioppa, Daniela Muscarella, Elena Muscarella, and Federico Cum. Steve's stories, wisdom, and the laughter he shared will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his loved ones. His legacy of passion, integrity, and kindness will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we celebrate the life of Stefano "Steve" Russo, whose journey from the cobblestone streets of Santo Stefano Del Sole to the heart of Long Branch, New Jersey, has been one of enduring love, unwavering faith, and an unquenchable zest for life.
