Stephen Spudic Obituary

Stephen J. Spudic, a beloved resident of Port Monmouth, New Jersey, passed away on August 30, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey in the company of loved ones. Born on August 3, 1956, in Jamaica Queens, New York he lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, and dedication, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.

His early years were spent in Far Rockaway.  He supported his faith as an altar boy and was always working - at his paper route, the local luncheonette, car wash, and the local golf club. His favorite work however, was helping his father at the Knights of Columbus. These jobs taught Stephen the importance of hard work, loyalty, dedication and most importantly, the value of deep and enduring friendships.

Stephen pursued his undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College, later advancing to George Washington Law School in Washington, D.C. There, he earned his Juris Doctor in 1982, setting the stage for a distinguished legal career.

He loved practicing law.  He spent more than 30 years at the Law Office of Britt, Riehl & Spudic in Freehold, New Jersey, progressing from young associate to owning partner. Stephen was known for his dedication to the law, tireless advocacy and compassionate counsel.

Stephen has always been a huge sports fan. He shared precious time with his father watching college football and later in life enjoyed attending professional games (baseball, football, basketball and hockey) with dear friends and family.

In 2006, Stephen’s life was forever changed when he met Mary Beth Villa, the love of his life. Their relationship, grounded in mutual respect, deep affection and humor, became the foundation of a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. They enjoyed skiing, biking and traveling the world together.

Stephen received a great gift in 2021 - he was the recipient of a heart transplant. He and his family will be forever grateful to the generous donor and family whose selflessness and sorrow gave Stephen a second chance at life. Stephen cherished this precious gift and lived each day with renewed purpose and gratitude.

After retiring in 2021, Stephen embraced the joys of life with family, friends and his rescued pups Sugar Plum and Gwen often spending peaceful days at the beach, a place where he found solace and happiness.

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Beth Villa, and his loving siblings: sister Eileen Beaumont, and brothers Paul, Michael, and Joseph. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 12th at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch, from 10am until the time of service beginning at 11am.

Stephen’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
