Steven M. Becker passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021. Born on the Lakehurst Army Base, he grew up in Long Branch and then settled in Eatontown where he has lived for the past 30 years. In July of 1990, Steve married Joann Fioretti, the love of his life. Steve was proud of his time serving in the US Army.
The Becker family owned the Happy Pickle for many years, where everyone had fondly remembered the days of Steve behind the bar. Steve started working for J.F. Kiely Construction Company in 1991 where he was the shop steward and Vice President of Local 409 before retiring in 2019. Steve was also a volunteer Fireman where he fought proudly alongside his brothers at the West End Engine #3 Firehouse of the Long Branch Fire Department. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, the NY Mets, and was an avid golfer and fisherman. What Steve loved the most was his role the past 17 years as Poppy to his grandson Edmund C. Hill, III (Eddie, or Babalou as he affectionately called him). He taught him all he could about fishing, sports, life and the importance of family; their bond is indescribable.
Steve is predeceased by his mother Mary D. Becker, his father William Becker, his Aunt Winnie Voss, his brother Richard G. Becker and his cousin Daniel Wymbs. He is survived by his wife Joann Becker, his daughters Jessica Becker, Michelle Gray and Melissa Gray, his grandson Edmund C Hill, III, his nieces Renee Brouwer and husband Dan, Denise Surdi, Riley and Ellie Brouwer, Gianna DeVito, and his cousin Mark Wymbs. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Hooch, Rosie and Lucy.
Services will be held on Thursday April 1, 2021 at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.
