Theodore Garrett Sr., “Sweetzie”, 70 of Long Branch, NJ, was born on September 22, 1951 in Red Bank, New Jersey. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch NJ.
Theodore graduated from Red Bank Regional High School in 1969. He was a great basketball player and earned many trophies for the team. After graduating, he attended Kean University and then decided to enlist in the United States Army. Theodore, served honorably in the U.S. Army. During 1974-1976 he served in the Vietnam War. His military occupational specialty was Auto/Truck Mechanic and he achieved the rank of E4. In 1976, he was honorably discharged due to health reasons. Years later he met and married the love of his life, Valary Sesler, and they share a wonderful son Theodore Garrett, Jr. (TJ).
Theodore was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank, NJ. He served on the usher board and he sung with the Male Chorus. Also, he was a member of the VA Ministry. He loved working on cars and keeping them clean. He loved fishing, bowling and playing cards with his buddies. He kept the crease in his suits straight and his boots and shoes shinning. He was a man with a great sense of humor and had a heart of gold. He was someone that you can always count on.
Theodore was predeceased by his grandparents Catherine (Gram Epps) and Pete Epps, his parents Major and Louise Garrett; his brothers, Larry, Jimmy and Victor Garrett; a sister, Joyce; a son, Antwann Garrett. He leaves to cherish his memory of his wife of 22 years, Valary Sesler-Garrett, their son Theodore Garrett, Jr., sons; Jerome Garrett (Casey), Joseph Garrett, Daughters; Tina Garrett, Siobhan Treadwell (Shykim), Rolanda Holmes (Vernon), brothers; Clifford Garrett, Gordan Garrett, William Garrett, Sister; Gertrude Green, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 22, 2022 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 23 River Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701. The viewing will be from 9:00am – 10:45am, following the service which will begin 11:00am.The military burial service with honors will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 2:00pm at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society at http://www.cancer.org/.
