Thomas Yerves, Sr. Obituary

Thomas B. Yerves, Sr. November 15, 1950 ~ February 24, 2026

Tom passed away peacefully while holding the hand of his favorite priest while saying prayers together. Exactly how he would want it. Born in New York City as one of triplet brothers. The oldest by a day. Tom's very early years were in New York City, with a move to Little Falls NJ, and then Cupsaw Lake NJ.

There, he was a swimming and diving champion for several years. In his teen years the family moved to Elberon on the Jersey Shore. He was the first surfer in the family, with his old green Rible 9' surfboard. He graduated RedBank Catholic HS along with older sister Kap, and brothers Gerry and Dennis. Tom served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war.

Tom became a self-trained chef and worked in several fine area restaurants. He then followed brother Gerry's footsteps into car sales, and was very successful for many years. He especially enjoyed the last 20+ years with his companion, Mary Anne. Tom had a great love of the ocean and anything connected, and was a devoted follower of the Catholic religion.

He was the last survivor of the family's "big kids", as we called them. Nine of us, a sister and triplets, then five years until the 5 "little kids" came along. Tom is predeceased by our Mom and Dad, Bud and Claire Yerves, older sister, Kappi Yerves, triplet brothers Dennis and Gerry, and younger brother Mickey. He is survived by a son, Thomas Jr. of Florida and granddaughter Joanna of Long Island, brothers Tim Yerves and his wife Cindy, Kevin Yerves, Bud Yerves and his wife Rhonda, and sister, Peg Verange and her husband, John, his longtime companion, Mary Anne Cipriano, stepdaughters Rosemary and Lisa, along with many nieces and nephews and friends from many years.

We will miss him as we miss all our siblings and Mom and Dad. But that's a great re-group up there. Looking out for us little kids again. Funeral arrangements to be announced. The family invites you to leave a note of condolence by selecting the tribute/guestbook link.
