Thomas Hanlon, 82, of Monmouth Beach, passed away at home on Friday, February 10, 2023.
He was born in Jersey City before moving to Monmouth Beach. He attended St. Michaels High School and Rutgers College. He served honorably in the US Army. Tom had a career in sales with many companies, with most of his career spent at Corning Sciences, where he was well respected and made many lifelong friends.
Tom was deeply spiritual and an active parishioner at The Church of the Precious Blood. He was a past member of the Men’s Club and an active volunteer. Tom was also a member of the Monmouth Beach Veteran’s Association where he was instrumental in getting the towns Military Honor Roll restored and brick walkway created.
Upon retirement, Tom and his wife Arlene spent their winters in Boynton Beach, Florida where he forged many beautiful new friendships. He served on the HOA boards of his community, Quail Run. Many of their New Jersey friends followed them to Boynton Beach, which gave them a full and fun social life down south.
Tom loved to travel with his wife Arlene and together they had many adventures, always making new friends on every trip.
Tom was happiest helping others and was an excellent listener and sounding board to all who sought out advice from him. He loved his family unconditionally and he will be missed dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Hanlon and two brothers Brian and Kevin Hanlon.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Arlene (Marshall), his daughters and sons in law, Laurie and Billy Petrone of Monmouth Beach, Kerry and Rich Van Wagner of Ocean Township, six grandsons, Danny Petrone and his wife Kelsey of Oceanport, Matthew Petrone of Jersey City, Billy Petrone and his fiancé Jackie of Eatontown, Connor, Cooper, and Ryan Van Wagner all of Ocean Township and two great grandchildren Charlie and Ford Petrone.
Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering from 10-11:30 am followed by the funeral mass at 11:30 am, all at the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monmouth Beach First Aid Squad, 26 Beach Road, Monmouth Beach NJ 07750 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
