Vincent John Colangelo

Vincent John Colangelo, 101 of Sarasota, Florida, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. 

As a 25 year old college student from Long Branch, Vincent was drafted into the Army, WWll. He was a technical sergeant in the 90th infantry. Among 259 veterans who were awarded New Jersey’s top military award, the Distinguished Service Medal. His medals also include a Bronze Star, five Battle Stars, and a Croix de Guerre from Belgium. He was also recently honored by the French government with a ceremony in Florida with the highest military award for their service in World War II: The Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honor, or Chevalier dans l’Order National de la Legion d’Honneur. 

A graduate of the Newark College of Engineering he worked for the government as a mechanical engineer applying his skills to a great number of surveillance projects. His love of music continued throughout his life. He played the trumpet with various dance bands in the 30s and 40s. He was involved with a great number of volunteer projects including heading the St. Vincent de Paul Society. 

He is pre deceased by his devoted and loving wife of 70 years, Frances. He leaves two daughters Barbara and Janice Colangelo; two grandsons and their wives Rick and Theresa Colangelo Schicitano and Peter and Cassandra Colangelo; seven great grandchildren, Isabella, John, Nicholas, Sarah, Anthony, Vivian and Rachael; eight great great grandchildren with three more on the way: Frances, Vincent, Dominic, Juliet, Mia, Sunny, Ramona and Peter; a dear sister Jeanette Boniello and many nephews and nieces. 

We are heartbroken and will forever miss our loving and devoted father and grandfather.
